December 1, 2020

Dear Friends of Richard and of the Wonder Workshop Children’s Museum,

We hope this letter finds you well during this holiday season. 2020 has certainly been a year full of hardships and uncertainty. In addition, as you all know, the Wonder Workshop Children’s Museum lost its’ founder and charismatic leader, Richard Pitts, in May of this year. Richard’s vision was to foster a life-long love of learning in children through hands-on activities and exhibits, with an intentional recognition of our cultural diversity. We feel obligated to honor his memory and to continue to serve the youth and families in our community. But with his passing, we have had to step-back and envision what this will look like without his passion and leadership to guide us.

As a member of the Wonder Workshop family, your past support of the museum’s mission to promote education in the arts, sciences and humanities has been wonderful and we thank you for it. There is nothing more important to us than the valuable relationships that were built between Richard, the WWCM Board of Directors, and YOU who make up our community. We would not be where we are today without the history of support from individuals such as yourself.

We also realize that there is more work to be done. Our neighborhoods, schools, families and youth need the Wonder Workshop now more than ever. In the months following Richard’s passing, we have seen evidence of the community he built, as memories from hundreds came pouring in to share stories of how their experiences at the museum influenced their outlook and values. It is time for us to continue the important work of supporting Richard’s vision and keep building onto the foundation that he provided, so that we may have a positive influence on hundreds more.

We cannot do this without your support. Due to the pandemic, we were unable to hold our annual Soul Food Dinner fundraiser this year. In a typical year, the WWCM relies heavily on this event to fund important programming throughout the year. For this upcoming Spring season of 2021, we plan to increase our support to our schools and their families. In order to do this, we will need to hire part-time staff and purchase supplies. Your donation will have a direct and immediate impact in supporting the following efforts:

  • $500 will support the hiring of part-time staff

  • $250 will support art and science supplies for hands-on activities

  • $100 will support paying monthly electric bills

  • $50 will support restocking needed cleaning and restroom supplies

  • $25 will support snacks for the youth

You may submit your tax-deductible donation online via Paypal ( or the Donate button above or mail a check, made out to the Wonder Workshop, to WWCM, 506 S. 4th St., Manhattan, KS 66502.

Thank you in advance for your continued support! We have big dreams in store for the future of the Wonder Workshop Children’s Museum and we are so very grateful that you are a part of our journey!

With gratitude,

Cindy Pitts and the WWCM Board of Directors
