Wonder Workshop Presents
THINK BIG

Our 2008 Summer Enrichment Camp

Mission Statement:
The mission of the Wonder Workshop is to promote education in the arts, sciences, and humanities. Our goal is to develop self-reliant children, families, and community members. Our hands-on-activities instill a desire for life long learning, recognizing our cultural diversity, and fostering creative potential.

Since 1989 Wonder Workshop has worked hard to bring exhibits and programs to the Manhattan community. Our goal has been to provide kids with an amazing summer experience while making sure your child is safe. As Executive Director of the Wonder Workshop I’m devoted to your child too, so I take time out from other duties to make sure our goals are achieved. What makes Wonder Workshop different is that we attempt to build self-confidence and provide unique choices as children meet new friends under the leadership of a passionate staff. Camp is for kids finishing K-6 th grades!

Activities:
Hand crafts, cooking, papermaking, printing making, photography, writing, reading, electricity & electroplating experiments, designing submarines to float & sink, chain reaction = what is a magnet, bouncing light, sound waves, periscopes, exploring what is force, chemistry, making music instruments, leadership academy, obstacle course, swimming, archery, hiking, fieldtrips, nature crafts, fossil digs, pottery, kite flying, herpetology, woodworking, and canoeing! Wow, that’s a mouth full.

Outback Camp special guest weekly or biweekly:
Sunset Zoo, K-State Entomology professors, Fish & Wildlife Biologist, Robyn James Horse Farm, and the Magpie Market.

How is this all going to work?
Our camp starts June 2, with our half-day (noon – 5:30 pm) day camp. Parents can drop off their child at Bluemont School. The school district will provide transport for your child to Bluemont if he or she is in their summer program. Children will then be transported to Outback Camp each day and returned to Bluemont for pick up by the Wonder Workshop. All parents/guardians will receive a map to our campsite.

During July our program is all day (8:30 am – 5:30 pm,) students enrolled in our camp will meet at Woodrow Wilson and we will provide transportation to our camp and back to Woodrow by 5:30 pm each day.

What about Lunch & snacks?
During the month of June and July students will be provided snacks. Students must eat lunch at home or at school before camp starts for the month of June. During the month of July students will need to bring their lunch every day except on Wednesdays. Each Wednesday students and staff will make lunch together.

Who leads the activities at Think Big?
Our activities are led by teachers, professionals, and college students who have a specialty and a desire to work with kids and who like to have big fun! Our philosophy is “no child gets lost in the crowd” and our ratio is 5 to 1!
